Phils Power Past Bucs 5-3

Dick Sisler went deep and Bubba Church didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 5 to 3 at Forbes Field. Church(7-6) pitched a fine game. He went 9 innings and surrended up 5 hits and 2 walks. The right-handed Church lost his no-hit bid when Vern Law singled with two outs in the 6th inning. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but Philadelphia was able to put down the rally. Law(9-4) was the loser. He was hit hard and gave up 14 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. Eddie Sawyer was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only we could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'
