Game#2 - Tribe Sweep Browns

Larry Doby blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Mike Garcia was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game as the Cleveland Indians bested the St. Louis Browns 7 to 3 at Municipal Stadium. Doby made sure the Cleveland fans enjoyed themselves. He smacked a three-run homer in the 1st inning, ripped a single in the 2nd inning and hit a bases-empty home run in the 8th inning. Cleveland managed 12 hits in their victory. Garcia(10-5) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Don Johnson(3-5) was charged with the loss. He allowed 5 hits and no walks without retiring a batter.

Wynn Beats Tigers 2-1

Early Wynn pitched 9 strong innings as the Cleveland Indians outscored the Detroit Tigers 2 to 1. Cleveland came up with 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th inning. Wynn(19-3) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Hal Newhouser(9-7) was the loser. He surrendered 2 runs and 4 hits in 7 innings. Cleveland now has a record of a league leading 73-37. With the loss, Detroit has a record of 7-3 lately, 53-52 overall.

Roberts Ends Phils Skid 5-3

Robin Roberts tossed a complete game at Connie Mack Stadium where the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Boston Braves by the score of 5 to 3. Philadelphia came through with the game-winning runs in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs on 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Dick Sisler started the rally when he laced a single. Del Ennis stepped up next and he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run. Philadelphia rapped out 8 hits for the night. Roberts(12-11), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Vern Bickford(15-9) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 5 runs and 8 hits in 8 innings. 'I struggled a bit out there tonight,' Roberts said, 'but I toughed it out and we got the win.'
