WEB GEMS- Top 7th: Dale Mitchell robbed Matt Batts of an extra base hit.
Bobby Doerr ripped 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Municipal Stadium where the
Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians by the score of 8 to 4.
Doerr was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided
much of the offense for the visitors. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 2nd
inning, blasted a two-run home run (his 10th of the season) in the 7th inning
and laced a one-base hit in the 9th inning. Boston managed 11 hits in their
victory.
The win went to Mel Parnell(5-1) who allowed 4 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Walt
Masterson recorded his 7th save. Mike Garcia(3-2) was given the loss. He
gave up 7 runs in 6 innings of work.
