Phillies Sweep Reds on the Road

Granny Hamner blasted 2 homeruns as the Philadelphia Phillies outscored the Cincinnati Reds 14 to 6. Hamner propelled Philadelphia to victory. He launched a Grand Slam homerun in the 1st inning, hit a bases-empty home run (his 5th of the season) in the 4th inning and doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 7th inning. Cincinnati was not lacking for run support as they scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win ballgames. The win was credited to Russ Meyer(6-5) who went 8 innings allowing 6 runs. Ewell Blackwell(7-8) suffered the loss. 'Some days it just all comes together, and this was one of them' Hamner said. 'I've been seeing the ball pretty well lately.'
