Doby and Clark Slug A's 13-3

Steve Gromek allowed Lou Boudreau to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game and center fielder Larry Doby had 4 hits and 4 RBI at Shibe Park as the indomitable Cleveland Indians embarrassed the Philadelphia Athletics by the lopsided score of 13 to 3. The Philadelphia fans didn't appreciate the big day Doby had. He laced a base-hit bringing in a run in the 4th inning, doubled in the 5th inning, rifled a three-run blast (his 8th of the season) in the 7th inning and slapped a single in the 9th inning. Cleveland rapped out 13 hits for the night. The victory was credited to Gromek(4-3) who went the distance, allowing 3 runs. Alex Kellner(3-12) took the loss. He couldn't find the strike zone and allowed 8 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
