Indians nip Senators 9-8

Larry Doby had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Griffith Stadium as the Cleveland Indians beat the Washington Senators by the count of 9 to 8. Washington was unable to claim the lead after Cleveland went ahead in the 5th inning plating an isolated run using 2 hits. Overall Cleveland out-hit Washington 14 to 11. The victory went to Mike Garcia(9-5) who went 7 and 1/3 innings, allowing 6 runs. Sam Zoldak earned his 3rd save. The losing pitcher was Connie Marrero(3-10). He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 10 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. 'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his best stuff,' Lou Boudreau said after the game. 'Garcia did not have command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!'
