| The seemingly unstoppable Cleveland Indians broke the deadlock in their last at bats, pulling out a 6 to 5 win over the dreadful Philadelphia Athletics and sending their hometown fans home smiling. Cleveland scored the deciding run in the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Lou Boudreau lined a one-base hit. Jim Hegan next to the plate and he stroked a base-hit. After another out, Luke Easter stepped in and he delivered a base-hit, and an error was also committed, making Cleveland the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Cleveland had a total of 10 hits for the game. Jesse Flores(1-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Carl Scheib(1-10) was the loser in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 6 hits in 2 and 2/3 innings. This win by Cleveland continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten games, they have a record of 8-2. For the season, they are a league leading 63-29. Not able to get much going in recent weeks, Philadelphia is 2-8 of late and now has an overall record of 29-63, worst in the league. |
