Mike Goliat launched 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies
outscored the New York Giants 9 to 5.

Goliat provided much of the offense. He lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run in the 5th inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 3rd of
the season) in the 7th inning and doubled clearing all three ducks off the
pond. in the 8th inning. New York made it exciting in the 9th, but they were
unable to push the needed runs across.

Ken Heintzelman(1-1) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings.
Heintzelman got help from Jim Konstanty who was credited with his 5th save.
Larry Jansen(3-1) was given the loss. His ERA increased from 1.66 to 2.60 as
he allowed 6 runs in 7 innings.

Leo Durocher was in a sour mood after the game. 'Even you guys up in the
press box know why we lost this game. We made too many mistakes.'
