Phillies Sweep Giants 8-7 in 11 Innings (Game 2)

Whitey Ashburn drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the 11th as the Phillies beat the Giants at Connie Mack Stadium in game 2 of the doubleheader.

The Philadelphia Phillies nipped the New York Giants in 12 innings 8 to 7 at
Connie Mack Stadium in a hard fought contest.
 
Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings.  Philadelphia came
out the victor in the 12th inning.  Del Ennis opened up the inning nicely
when he delivered a single.  Willie Jones came next and he grounded into a
double play.  Dick Sisler then stroked a one-base hit.  Mike Goliat followed
and he reached on an error.  Andy Seminick stepped into the box and stroked a
single which scored a run.  Bill Nicholson continued the rally and laced a
base-hit scoring one more run.  Richie Ashburn came next and he banged out a
base-hit making Philadelphia the victor and beginning a joyous home town
celebration.  It was roller coaster of a game as the lead change hands 5
times.  
 
The win was credited to Bob Miller(2-0) who went 4 innings allowing 2 runs.
Jack Kramer(1-1) was the loser in relief.  He was unable to retire a batter
giving up 3 hits and no walks.
